Movies

Today my elder brother made good on his promise to go watch a movie with me, B, and Mattie. Ni-chan has been quite preoccupied due to unfortunate circumstances (I'm thinking of making an entry about it but maybe on a latter date when my head has managed to cool). So my boys and I headed down to NCCC Mall to catch Battle: Los Angeles. It's been a while since I've been to the cinemas and it's been even longer since an army/alien movie caught my fancy.

So let's see: A Marine Staff Sergeant who has just had his retirement approved goes back into the line of duty in order to assist a 2nd Lieutenant and his platoon as they fight to reclaim the city of Los Angeles from alien invaders. (www.imdb.com)

The trailer was good, that's why I initially wanted to see this movie. I certainly enjoyed it! Although, the camera movements were rather erratic and at times I had to squint or look away to avoid getting dizzy. I suppose that's the director's way of trying to share what soldiers in the line of fire go through. I'm certain it's much worse.

I was really glad that Michelle Rodriguez was there. I always loved it when she's onscreen. It's just getting pretty obvious that she's stuck in the same generic role of a tough girl with a pretty face. So, basically, if you're trying to find depth from this movie, you won't find it. There's the 'moment' where the main character gives the 'get on with it/empowerment speech'. So I'm trying to find how this movie differs from Independence Day. Well, I suppose in this movie, the aliens were more obvious about why they came. I just wondered how the scientists in this film managed to realize that they were after our water, or that the sea levels were receding, and such things.

Practically, it raises a lot of questions. However, if you're just out for a good distraction with popcorn and side comments, this movie is perfect for you.

I'm surprisingly looking forward to the 4th Pirates movie for one single reason: Mermaids. I'm a nutter for anything with mermaids in it! Also, B showed me the trailer for Friends With Benefits. It stars Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis. The trailer is hilarious and I look forward to watching that as well. Looks like the summer is looking bright!
